Through nine seasons and what has felt like an eternity since Week 17, Antonio Brown declared in a tweet posted on Tuesday that it’s “time to move on and forward.”
This is not a shock to anyone.
Whether the Pittsburgh Steelers agree with Brown has yet to be seen. The franchise – through team President Art Rooney II – has stated that it will not release Brown, but there are other options on the table to send the receiver out of Pittsburgh.
That being said, if watching the team’s struggles against Cincinnati in Week 17 when Brown was sat for missing a Saturday walkthrough is a harbinger of things to come in a Brown-free offense, this breakup will certainly hurt the Steelers in the short-term future.
What the future holds for Brown cannot be forecasted until he’s in another team’s laundry.
